Breakfast....To skip or not to skip

How many times have you heard the phrase “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”? Yet, how many of us say “I don’t have time”, “I’ll grab something later” or “I couldn’t possibly eat that early in the morning”. Wrong, wrong and wrong. Eating breakfast will help you lose weight and skipping it will not.

The word breakfast is a combination of the words break and fast. It breaks the fasting your body does following the meal you had the night before. When you wake up, your body is empty and needs fuel to get you through the morning. Go without and by lunchtime you’re tired, you lack concentration and won’t perform as well at work or at school. This will also make you more tempted to just grab something quick to see you through the morning, which usually ends up being something high in sugar and unhealthy, whereas eating breakfast helps to stabilise blood sugar levels, which control your appetite and energy.

If you’re trying to lose weight, skipping breakfast is not going to help, not only because of the added temptation to snack on unhealthy foods, but also because breakfast turns your body into a more efficient fat-burning machine as it boosts your metabolism. Each time you eat, enzymes in your body's cells break down the food and turn it into energy that keeps you functioning. The faster your metabolism, the more calories you burn, regardless of what you do. The more calories you burn, the easier it is to lose weight and not put it back on.

what makes a great pole dancing tune?

When it comes to choosing music ultimately it all boils down to personal taste, but whether your a rock chick, showgirl or into your hardcore dance there are a few basic rules to follow.

Firstly choose a song your familiar with....

Choosing a song you like will make your pole dance more enjoyable and will keep you motivated to keep going to the end of the song, in addition if you know the song you will be able to anticipate and prepare moves ahead for the big guitar solo or the climax to your tune.

Work to the beat of the music...

Always make a point of listening to the track you've chosen, theres nothing worse than starting to dance to the tune only to find that the beat is so fast your tricks and floor-work are rushed and your in a heap gasping for air after 30 seconds of hard dancing.
remember all tunes will be able to be worked on either a fast beat or a slow beat find the one to suit your choreography choice.
Ask myself or Ailsa if you struggle to find the beat in music, we are always happy to help.

Choose your choreography style....

The Importance of grip!

By Lisa Smallshaw

Have you started a spin and ended up on the floor half way round? Do your hands slip down the pole when you’re actually trying to lift yourself up?
You’re not alone
A lot of people have problems slipping instead of gripping when they first start pole dancing. And though it’s less common, some people have the opposite problem – they just stick too much.
Unfortunately it’s not something that will ever go away completely, but it will lessen dramatically as your pole dancing improves.
Here are some of the most common causes and advise on how to improve and strengthen your grip.

Sweaty hands are one of the most common culprits, and almost everyone has problems with this at some point. keep a towel handy and keep your hands clean take each trick at a relaxed pace to avoid the dreaded nerves kicking in.
